Prepositions
(preposições) são palavras ou frases que esclarecem relacionamentos. Na maioria
dos casos, precedem um substantivo ou um pronome.

Prepositions
of Place (preposições de lugar) introduzem informações sobre onde algo se
localiza ou ocorre.
In indica que algo se
localiza dentro de um espaço delimitado. (Smoking is not allowed in the store).
On indica localização
em uma superfície. (The letter is
on the table). Também é utilizada para indicar uma rua. (Our
office is on George Washington Avenue).
At indica uma posição
específica ou endereço. (Gabriela
is at the gym).
In front of
índica posição em frente a algo ou alguém. (He sits all day in front of the computer).
Behind indica posição atrás
de outras pessoas ou coisas. (The
mother is standing behind her daughter).
Between
indica posição no meio de duas pessoas ou coisas. (Who is that woman standing between your wife and your
daughter?).
Among indica posição entre
três ou mais pessoas ou coisas. (He
was chosen among a group of more than 100 students).
Inside indica localização
na parte interna. (The gift is
inside the box).
Next to
indica proximidade de alguma pessoa ou coisa. (In the supermarket, the fruits are placed next to the
vegetables).
Under significa abaixo. (The fork is under the table).
Near significa perto de. (The restaurant is near the
shopping mall).
